Counselling for Adults with Difficulties Controlling their Anger
Wigan Family Welfare and the Primary Care Trust is committed to providing services that reduce harm and improve resilience and well being.
There is a growing body of evidence that links anger to a range of emotional, social and physical problems. Anger has been linked to coronary heart disease, cancer, stroke and general poor health (Mental Health Foundation 2009). It has also been linked to mental health problems and relationship breakdown.
A report by the Mental Health Foundation (2009) fond that a third of people asked knew someone in the family or a close friend who had problems with controlling their anger. 12% admitted to having problems controlling their anger and 20% of people had ended a relationship with someone because of how they behaved when they were angry.
This project aims to help individuals (19+) improve their anger management and to improve their social interaction and relationships. The project will help individuals in reducing their episodes of verbal and physical aggression.
The project is offered at our main offices at St Catharine's House, Scholes. There will be opportunities to meet a counsellor on a one to one basis and in the future to seek peer support from group therapy.
